The Errington Farmers’ Market was established in 1973 by the late Gerry Shaw with the help of her father, Fred Kaufer, husband Terry and sons Mark and Stan. Originally located across the road from the Errington General Store, the market became a popular destination for Errington and area residents on summer Saturday mornings. Sadly, Gerry was struck by cancer and passed away in 1988. A non-profit society was formed to carry the Market forward.
In 1992, the property was sold and the market had to look for a new home. It found one in the Community Park next to Errington Hall. With the cooperation of the Hall Association, largely donated materials, and much volunteer labour, stalls, picnic tables and a small coffee shop were constructed in a clearing next to the ball field and the summer Saturday morning market ritual resumed. The Market re-opened in its new location in July, 1993. Now in its 38th year, a visit to the Market is still a great way to spend a summer Saturday morning.
Errington Farmers’ Market is a proud member of the BCAFM (British Columbia Association of Farmers’ Markets). Our Motto is “Make It, Bake It or Grow It!”. We offer fresh produce, baked goods, bedding plants and items created by local crafters as well as coffee and goodies from the coffee shop in a woodsy, friendly atmosphere. There is always music playing, activities for the kids, and lots of conversation with friends and neighbours.
